Comfort Quilts

We are always in need of comfort quilts to give away to those in our community who are experiencing difficult times. Quilts can be of your own design, or you can complete a Comfort Quilt Kit if one is available at our monthly meeting. All quilts donated as Comfort Quilts should be completed (with binding and quilted or tied), and should include a RPQG label. For more information, contact Mary Beth Baker or Gail Caldwell.

Hexy Cubes

Shirley Hemmings saw this on a blog and is passing it along in case you need one more reason to paper piece hexagons. Here is a new one. Try some hexy cubes.

The quilt should be a wallhanging because it has to hang on the wall so that you could see the 3D effect. You can make how many cubes you want. A quick project needs only three cubes.

For every cube you need three shades of the same color. Try to have some contrast between them. You could even use different colors for the same cube. Just keep the same rule about contrast The cubes will be appliqued on a background fabric so that the final quilt will be even larger.

Plan ahead what color you want to use for the hexagons that surround the cubes. It should offer some contrast with the cubes and with the background as well. Make the center hexagon of the cubes in a neutral color. It could be made out of the same fabric you will use for background.
